Walter Ram, WWII veteran and docent, honored with second Purple Heart

Docents Gail Thompson (left) and Syd Degon (right) join MSgt (ret) Walter Ram and Sen Martha McSally (center) during a ceremony at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson on August 20, 2019.
Please join us in honoring our very own Master Sergeant (Retired) Walter Ram, who was presented with a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster this Tuesday. Walter has been a docent at the Museum for many years, and we are so very proud to have him.
Walter is a native of Nogales. The then 16 year old lied about his age in 1940 to enlist in the Army. He served as a radio operator in World War II, and twice survived his plane being shot down. The second time, he was captured and endured nearly two years as a POW. He has shared his experience with many local groups and organization, and generously donates his time on Saturdays to help educate visitors to the 390th Memorial Museum.
For a wonderful piece about the ceremony, please read the feature from The Nogales International.
Congratulations MSgt Ram, we are proud and honored to have you at our Museum!
