390th Bomb Group Nose Art Auction Oct 1 thru Dec 1

Auction Website - Zeffy

The 390th Memorial Museum has partnered with Zeffy to make available to the public, sections of nose art banners displayed at the museum. Artwork varies in size from approximately  26″x26″ up to 56″x56″.

This is your chance to own a piece of museum history and support the foundation as we build new nose art displays and continue other improvements inside our hangar.

Which B-17 Nose Art is for Auction?

The Museum has displayed 45 individual B-17s’ nose art on large banners from the hangar ceiling. Each Flying Fortress is detailed with serial number, mission count and the fate of both the airplane and its crew. Due to improvements to the hangar’s HVAC system these banners were removed and new designs will take their place.

Please be aware that the individual sections of the banners have some fading from over the years. Minor imperfections will be expected. The banner items have been rough cut and will require trimming to your own preferences.

Bidding will be open Oct 1st thru Dec 1st

Minimum bid for these items will be $500 for standard sizes, and $400 for the smaller pieces. We’ll do our best to get winners their items before the end of the year.

*All banners are relatively square but sizes are estimates only

You Can Help Preserve 390th History

All proceeds raised from this auction will directly contribute to ongoing renovations at the 390th Memorial Museum. Our hangar was built in 1987 and to best preserve the museum’s 80 year old artifacts, a large scale HVAC project is currently underway.

Where did the Nose Art come from?

Printed on high quality vinyl, these banners depict colorized artwork of 390th Bomb Group B-17’s Flying Fortresses. Through the personal correspondence and collective memory of 390th Bomb Group Veterans black and white photos were painstakingly colorized in high resolution.

After years of hanging in the 390th Memorial Museum, our new HVAC system and improvements to insulating the hangar walls necessitated this exhibits removal. The museum is committed to bringing the stunning nose art exhibit back using the money raised from this auction to create an all new nose art exhibit.
